Il gruppo #hacker italiano #mhackeroni ha preso il controllo del #satellite €Moonlighter del #governo americano. L'operazione è stata compiuta da un gruppo di ricercatori, ricercatrici e studenti di diverse #università italiane, tra cui un allievo PhD e un alumno della Normale, Fabio Zoratti e Lorenzo Demeio.
Il team ha agito in piena legalità: si trattava infatti di una gara organizzata dal U.S. Space Systems Command, che si è svolta a Las Vegas pochi giorni fa durante la conferenza DEF CON 31, a cui hanno partecipato circa 380 squadre da tutto il mondo.
Per svolgere i problemi era necessario avere conoscenze hacking e aerospaziali. Ad esempio, una delle challenge chiedeva ai team di far fotografare al satellite alcune regioni "vietate", che il satellite avrebbe dovuto rifiutarsi di fotografare. Un altro problema chiedeva invece di "imbrogliare" il sensore GPS del satellite, facendogli credere di trovarsi altrove.
Il primo premio per la competizione "Hack-A-Sat", vinto dalla squadra italiana, è una ricompensa di 50.000 dollari.

Mhackeroni, a group of Italian hackers, has taken control of the US government's satellite "Moonlighter". The operation was carried out by a group of researchers and students from various Italian universities, including a PhD student and an alumnus of the Scuola Normale, Fabio Zoratti and Lorenzo Demeio respectively.
The team acted in full legality: it was in fact a competition organized by the U.S. Space Systems Command, which took place in Las Vegas a few days ago during the DEF CON 31 conference, which was attended by about 380 teams from all over the world.
To carry out the problems it was necessary to have hacking and aerospace knowledge. For example, one of the challenges was to make the satellite photograph certain "forbidden" regions, which the satellite should have refused to photograph. Another challenge was to "cheat" the GPS sensor of the satellite, making it believe it was elsewhere.
